The Ups and Downs of Colorado

Good morning, Durango!  We slept in a bit and then enjoyed a stroll through the historic downtown area.

This is the hotel/saloon where we ate last night.

And the Durango Silverton Museum.  Trains and related stuff.
Check out the caboose.
The train!  Seems to be missing an engine.  That's okay, we didn't want to ride.
Then we had bagels.  I had my honey wheat bagel with maple walnut schmear and bacon. It was yummy.
Then over this not-as-scary-as-I-expected road over the mountain.  That sign says the elevation is over 10,000 feet.  It was a lot of uphill driving.  And then a lot of downhill driving.
Beautiful but not too exciting.
We went looking for campgrounds.  Found a couple that were empty and had no cell service.  No thank you.  But the two hour side trip provided lots of wildlife viewing and this interesting, hand-built Bishop's Castle.  Cool.  And weird.

Pretty, lonely road.

Smile, deer!

We finally found a campground in pueblo west and set up our tent in the dark.
