Remember the Alamo

Good morning, San Antonio!    Good morning, dead iPhone?!?!?  NOOOOOOO!  This morning I woke up to find my iPhone dead (remember, I just upgraded in Mesa 10 days ago?).  Would not turn on, would not charge.  Dead.  Okay, it's not as tragic as what happened at the Alamo, but I was very sad.  So, Navigator Cassie to the rescue, once again!  Her undead phone was able to locate a Verizon store not far away, and close to an IHoP.  We had breakfast, drove around for 10 minutes (Verizon doesn't open until 9:00), and then...

met my new best friend, Daniel, who was able to fix the problem in a matter of minutes.  (Tip:  if your iPhone appears dead, try holding down the power and home buttons at the same time for 20 seconds.   The phone is probably locked.)

Then, off to see the Alamo!  It looks bigger in the pictures.  It's pretty somber inside. Don't touch the walls.

Unlike our happy, smiling faces outside:

One of the walkways leading up to the side of the shrine.  I thought it was very pretty. Cassie wanted to know if the holes in the walls were actual bullet holes.
And a courtyard just off that pretty walkway.

We walked across the street from the Alamo to enter the San Antonio Riverwalk.  Mostly restaurants along water.  It's not as pretty as the Riverwalk in Pueblo.  As we were walking, Sandy stopped us to chat, and then she was offering us free food at the Tower of the Americas.  Seemed like a trap!  We were skeptical.  Then she said we could have a $75 American Express card if we didn't want the free meal.  How and why would she be doing this?  To get us to tour the Wyndham Resort, of course.  I mentioned that I was homeless and unemployed, but she persisted and we agreed to get in the scary white van.

The suites are really pretty.

Here's the view from the balcony.

And this is LeAnn, our tour guide/sales rep.  She's also a fun mom of two kids.

Oh -- look at that pretty living area!  This is in the four-bedroom suite.

So, basically we listened to this sales pitch for 90 minutes, and heard about all the benefits of the Wyndham Vacation Club.  Here's the thing -- I'm going to take vacations.  One of the motivations for leaving Sitka was being able to get to other places.   I was sold.  The system is genius.  Don't worry, I gave them your name.  ;-)

After our Wyndham tour, we continued our walk on the Riverwalk, stopped by to thank Sandy for choosing us, had BBQ at County Line (enjoyed visiting with Cliff from Sedona who was working as the host).  After a late lunch, we went back to IMAX to see "The Alamo."  Sandy said it was "a must see."  It really was worth the time to see it.

Of course, you exit the theater right into the gift shop.  She doesn't look like a tourist, does she?

Tomorrow we'll visit the Missions and the Cathedral, visit with Cheryl in New Braunfels, and then head for Houston.
