it's been sunny and hot here all week, so i slept with the window open. this morning i woke to the sound of birds. my first thought (after the starling episode) was "oh, not again." but i soon realized these flapping wings were not starling. and i could hear eagles outside. they're really loud. they sound like this: http://www.thebigzoo.com/Sounds/Haliaeetus_leucocephalus_001.mp3
i got out of bed and opened the curtain to see a bald eagle standing atop the old utility pole on the lot next door -- about 12 feet from my bedroom window. of course i didn't have my camera, so here's a picture of the pole...

i looked down and another eagle -- all brown with no white head -- was standing on the ground at the base of the pole. i think this is the same one, standing on the pole across the street a few minutes later...

and this is the one that was on the ground when i went back to take a picture of the pole for you...

That's not something you see everyday. Very cool.
ingsh (not the sound an eagle makes)
Hot and dry all week = high temps between 72 and 79, not a cloud in the sky. Normal high temp for this time of year is 60. 79 is a record high for this week. It's HOT.
