We Are Family

Marlon's tacos are da bomb! Lori was kind enough to invite me for dinner, and even sent me home with leftovers. Yum! Yum! Yum!

My niece had a booth at the local market, so I stopped by to peruse. Didn't buy anything, but it was nice to visit with Dawn, Rachael and Emilee.

Stopped by to visit mom and dad since I was downtown. The gate was locked so I had to say hi from a distance. Miss them all the time.

Science

This Is Where You Belong: The Art and Science of Loving the Place You Live by [Warnick, Melody]During the road trip in June, a couple of people had recommended audio books. When I got home, I looked into Audible, and the first book I listened to with my free trial was This Is Where You Belong. Warnick suggests several ways to become "place attached" including getting out and DOING things in the area.

With that advice in mind, I started making an effort to find things to do. Initially, I was going alone, as I've embraced the solitude. But then a wonderful thing happened -- friends!

Posting my adventures on facebook led to finding friends who want to join me on my adventures, and it is every bit as good as going it alone.

Apparently, place attachment can take three to five years, so I have a while to work at this. In the meantime, Arizona has some interesting places to explore.

Prescott

Prescott's 66th Annual Arts & Crafts Festival seemed like a really good reason to get out of the heat! My BFF, Deb, joined me for the day and we wandered around the courthouse, bought some pretty skirts, tried chocolate covered bacon and candied nuts, and ran into my brother.

Lots of colorful booths! Several offered pain remedies, which makes me think a lot of people are in pain.

Mob Burgers for lunch!

And then a stop at Whiskey Row pub. The bartender was grumpy, but you can see that we're still having fun!

Stopped on the way home for fresh corn on the cob, Alaskan Oatmeal Stout (from Prescott Valley Liquor Barn), and shirts to match our skirts. Another fun day!

Taliesin West

In keeping with the theme (free admission for teachers), I visited Frank Lloyd Wright's house in Scottsdale, Taliesin West. Very interesting tour, and the docent was delightful (despite what the TripAdvisor reviews say).

I followed up this tour with lunch at Gyro Express, which was delicious.
